6月の最終週、「プリ・クラス」では、6月のTopicの総復習をしながら、さらに「Everything I Love」をひろげて、文化の違いがある世界の人々にも愛情や敬意を感じるのは、どういうことなのかを考えてみました。

各先生方の出身国のそれぞれの文化については、すでに身近に感じることが出来るのですが、さらに世界にはどんな国があるのか、どんなものを食べているのか、楽しく世界中をめぐる授業になりました。

最後に、先日の「Little Hands Project」の募金先をみんなで相談のうえ、日本赤十字社をとおして全額を「令和７年大船渡市赤崎町林野火災義援金（岩手県）」に届けることができました。子どもたちが「Everything I Love」を少しでも体感できたのあれば、こんなに嬉しいことはありません。

そして7月のTopicはみんな大好きな「虫と動物」。暑い季節になってきましたが、クラスの中は、これからもますます盛り上がっていきそうです。

Cultures Around the World

June is almost over. This week, we will say goodbye to the monthly topics concerning emotion, feelings, our friends, and ourselves. We will move on to science and nature topics in the summer, like bugs and animals, plants and space, and more. Before that ends though, we expanded our topic of love. Already, we had three different kinds of love:

1. Family Love. We love our parents, our family, our pets.
2. Friendly Love. We love our friends, our teachers, and others.
3. Things We Love. We might love a certain food, color, or animal, for example.

6月ももう終わりです。今週は、感情、気持ち、友だち、そして自分自身に関する月例テーマに別れを告げます。夏には、虫や動物、植物、宇宙など、科学や自然に関するテーマに移ります。その前に、愛というテーマを広げました。すでに3種類の愛がありました。

1. 家族愛：両親、家族、ペットを愛します。
2. 友情愛：友だち、先生、その他大勢の人を愛します。
3. 好きなもの：例えば、特定の食べ物、色、動物などが好きかもしれません。

We thought about one more

Finally, we thought about one more: we had love and respect for other people in the world, even people we haven’t met yet.

We talked about what is happening in other parts of the world. We remembered how we talked about Japanese culture in May, and thought about culture in other parts of the world.

We thought about countries and cities, and what foods or events they might experience there. And we thought about where we might want to go!

最後に、私たちはもう一つのことを考えました。それは、世界中の人々、たとえまだ会ったことのない人々であっても、愛と尊敬の念を抱くということです。

私たちは世界の他の地域で何が起こっているかについて話し合いました。5月に日本の文化について話したことを思い出し、世界の他の地域の文化について考えました。

私たちは、どんな国や都市があるか、そこでどんな食べ物やイベントを体験できるかを考えました。そして、自分たちがどこに行きたいかを考えました。

We tried to list as many countries

At first, we tried to list as many countries as we could just from what we knew already. Working as a team, we came up with more than 20, which is pretty good! From Canada to Turkey to the Philippines, we had some experience with other cultures already through our teachers.

But we also knew more just from what we had seen or experienced, like food we have eaten. We talked about France and Italy, Mexico, the United States, Australia, China, and more! The world is certainly a big place…

最初は、すでに知っていることだけで、できるだけ多くの国を挙げようとしました。チームで協力して、20カ国以上を挙げることができたのです。これはかなり良い数字です。カナダ、トルコ、フィリピンなど、先生方を通して様々な国の文化に触れてきました。

しかし、実際に見たり体験したりしたこと、例えば食べたものなどからも、より多くのことを知りました。フランス、イタリア、メキシコ、アメリカ、オーストラリア、中国など、様々な国について話しました。世界は本当に広いですね…。

Japan seems so small!

It was also interesting to look at the flat map and the round globe. We could see how the oceans surround the world and how people travel from place to place.

Having the map and globe available in the class let us explore the world ourselves while we thought about places we might want to go. On the globe, Japan seems so small! But we know it is full of culture and people.

That just goes to show that there is so much more world out there. Maybe one day we can experience more of it.

平面の地図と丸い地球儀を見るのも面白かったです。海が世界を囲んでいる様子や、人々がどのように場所から場所へと移動しているかを知ることができました。

教室に地図と地球儀があったので、自分たちで世界を探検しながら、行きたい場所を考えることができました。地球儀で見ると、日本はとても小さく見えます！でも、日本にはたくさんの文化と人々がいることを私たちは知っています。

これは、世界にはもっとたくさんの世界があることを示しています。いつかもっと多くの世界を体験できるかもしれません。

Part of our events in the last month have included the Little Hands Project, which involves us sharing this kind of love, for others who we might not know.

We shared the money we earned with those who need it. We can spread our love to others, and hopefully make the world a better place!

先月のイベントの一つに「Little Hands Project」がありました。これは、私たちが知らないかもしれない人たちに、このような愛を分かち合うというものです。

私たちは、集まったお金を、必要としている人たちと分かち合いました。私たちの愛を他の人に広げ、世界をより良い場所にしていきたいと思っています。
