Hello everyone!

This last week was the last week of June.

Because of the weather being so hot, we had to be careful and not go to the park for too long, or too late in the day. However, we were still able to visit a few times, and we explored the tall grass to find some new creatures!

That’s right: bugs!!

With July just around the corner, we decided it was a good time to see what bugs had come out to play. We were able to find a lot of grasshoppers, as well as some beetles, butterflies, and other bugs here and there. Everyone in the class was curious to catch the grasshoppers. But of course, we did our best not to hurt them, and let them go nicely when we were done.

In addition to our usual literacy and reading practice, one of our focuses this week was on the festival of Tanabata. As it would arrive the following week, we made preparations and designed a bamboo tree of our own to put wishes oPiece by piece, we constructed it inside the classroom.

Then, after learning all about the story of Orihime and Hikoboshi, it was our turn to think of something to wish for. We hoped that the two would be able to meet on 7/7, and we hung our own wishes on the bamboo tree.

Our wishes were about the future. What did we want to be? I was pleased to see many different answers, from racecar drivers to dancers to dentists. I am also praying that these wishes will come true!

That wasn’t the end of our Tanabata journey, however! On Friday, we were able to get branches of real bamboo! One by one, we took home our wishes and a twig of bamboo, and hoped for the best.

This summer, we will dream about the future, but work hard for the present! Let’s continue to have fun and learn about the world around us.

先週は6月の最終週でした。

暑い日が続いたので、公園にはあまり長い時間行かないように、また遅い時間には行かないように、気をつけなければなりませんでした。

しかし、それでも何度か足を運ぶことができ、背の高い草むらを探検して新しい生き物を発見しました。

そうです、虫です!

7月を目前にして、どんな虫が遊びに来ているのか見てみることにしました。バッタはもちろん、カブトムシやチョウチョなど、あちこちで虫を見つけることができました。クラスのみんなは、バッタを捕まえようと興味津々でした。でも、もちろん傷つけないように、終わったらきれいに逃がしてあげました。

いつもの読み書きの練習に加えて、今週は七夕のお祭りに焦点を当てました。翌週には七夕を迎えるので、その準備をし、自分たちで願いを込めた笹竹をデザインしました。教室の中で一つひとつ組み立てていきました。

そして、織姫と彦星の物語を学んだ後は、今度は私たちが願いごとを考える番です。「7月7日に二人が会えますように」と願い、自分たちの願い事を竹の木にかけました。

私たちの願いは、未来に関するものでした。どうなりたいか？　レーシングカーのドライバー、ダンサー、歯医者など、いろいろな答えがあって嬉しかったです。私も、これらの願いが叶うように祈っていますよ。

しかし、私たちの七夕の旅はこれで終わりではありませんでした!　金曜日には、本物の竹の枝を手に入れることができました。一人一人、願い事と笹を持ち帰り、願い事をしました。

この夏は、未来を夢見つつ、今を一生懸命に頑張ります。これからも、楽しみながら勉強していきましょう。
