1月のインターナショナル・プリスクールCHESのTopicは、「交通と建物」。どちらも子どもたちみんなが大好きな内容で、Activitiesも盛りだくさん！　各クラスの内容をまとめてお伝えすることにしますね。

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. This week began by talking about trains! It’s an exciting topic for lots of people, and an interesting one for everyone because we all see and use trains every so often.

How do trains move so quickly? How do they stay safe? What gives them power?

皆さん、こんにちは。お元気でしょうか。今週は電車の話から始まりました。多くの人にとってエキサイティングな話題ですし、私たちは皆、頻繁に電車を見たり使ったりしているので、皆にとっても興味深い話題です。電車はどうやってあんなに速く移動できるのか？  どうやって安全を確保しているのか？ どうやって力を得ているのか。

Throughout the rest of the week, we continued to talk about many things as well. In total, we talked about cars, designing our own new ones; we talked about trains and rails; and we talked about boats and other floating things.

We looked at examples of trains, and how they were different from each other. Steam trains, bullet trains, and even mag-lev trains. They all use different methods to get faster and faster!

この後も、いろいろなことを話し合いました。車について、自分たちで新しい車をデザインすること、電車やレールのこと、船や浮き輪のこと。電車の例を見て、それぞれどう違うのか。蒸気機関車、新幹線、そして磁気浮上式鉄道。蒸気機関車、新幹線、磁気浮上式鉄道など、それぞれ違う方法でどんどん速くなります。

Efficiency and design are both important when making a new car, but creativity is a great place to start! What kinds of fuel can we use for future cars? Could we really build a car that runs on snow?

We spent lots of time outside this week as well, taking advantage of our energy. We know lots of vehicles use people power, so we can use our own “people power” to warm our bodies up!

新しいクルマをつくるには、効率もデザインも大切ですが、まずはクリエイティビティを発揮することが大切です。未来のクルマにはどんな燃料が使えるのだろう？ 雪の上を走るクルマは本当にできるかな？

今週は、私たちのエネルギーを活用するために、たくさんの時間を外で過ごしました。人の力を使っている乗り物がたくさんあるのだから、自分たちの「人の力」を使って体を温めよう!

We even visited the park for some unique reasons: to try out some of our creative vehicle ideas! One of our types of transportation was the rocket. We tried making a rocket out of a balloon, but it shot up into the air in a crazy pattern. How could we make the rocket fly straight?

We tried attaching it to a string, and it worked very well! It became a balloon-powered ropeway.  It worked well in the classroom, so we decided to bring it to the park to try it out there.

さらに、私たちの独創的な乗り物のアイデアを試すため、特別な理由で公園を訪れました。そのひとつがロケットです。風船でロケットを作ろうとしたのですが、空に向かっておかしな方向に飛んでいってしまうんです。どうしたらまっすぐ飛ぶようになるのでしょうか？

そこで、風船を紐でくくってみると、これが大成功。風船で動くロープウェイになったのです。教室でうまくいったので、公園に持っていって試してみることにしました。

With our safety guards in place, we attached the rope to the top of the park, and tried to send it all the way up the stairs! It didn’t quite make it… but it got up more than 20 steps! Amazing for only a single balloon.

We tried attaching two balloons at once, but it didn’t make it any further. This let us think why. The extra balloon made it much heavier! Making a good piece of transportation requires a lot of thinking!

Finally, this week, we moved on to floating and boats. We took out a tank of water to try putting in different things and seeing what floats and what sinks. Our goal was to make something to keep the toy cow afloat.

安全ガードをつけて、ロープを公園の上部に取り付け、階段の上まで送ってみました! なかなかうまくいきませんが、20段以上は登れましたよ。たった1つの風船なのに驚きです。

2つの風船を同時につけてみましたが、これ以上は上がりませんでした。その理由を考えてみました。風船が1つ増えることで、より重くなったのです。いいものを作るには、いろいろと考えないといけませんね。

いよいよ今週は、浮き輪やボートの話です。水槽にいろいろなものを入れて、何が浮いて、何が沈むかを試しました。目標は、牛のおもちゃを浮かばせるものを作ることでした。

The balloons and cups were excellent at floating, but not so good as boats. We decided they were good at floating because they had a lot of air inside, and because they were light. We tried making a boat out of sticks and straws, but the cow fell in the water! We would need to use our brains to make it better…

風船とコップは浮くことに優れていましたが、船としてはイマイチでした。中に空気がたくさん入っていて、軽いから浮くのに適していると判断したのです。棒とストローでボートを作ってみたが、牛は水に落ちてしまった。もっと上手に作るには、頭を使わないと…。

Designing a vehicle, especially one that works well, is not easy! We spent time measuring, cutting, and taping, as well as helping friends that needed it, until we all had perfect sealed straws completed.

With that finished, we were ready for the next step! What will that be? We will have to see… Hopefully the cow can wait!

乗り物をデザインすること、特にうまく機能するものをデザインすることは簡単ではありません。私たちは、ストローで完璧な密閉が完成するまで、測定、切断、テーピングに時間をかけ、また、必要なお友だちの手助けをました。そして、次のステップへ。それは何でしょう？それはまたの機会に…。牛が待ってくれるといいんだけどｗ

Blue Bird

For our craft time, we had our boat decorations today. Thank you for bringing pet bottles on time. I appreciated your time and effort always. We put on stickers and we drew some shapes using markers. We will add more tomorrow and we can bring it home tomorrow also.

We can play it while in the bath room but always be careful not to play too much! 🙂

工作の時間は、今日は船の飾り付けをしました。ペットボトルを持ってきてくれてありがとうございました。いつも協力いただきありがとうございます。ステッカーを貼ったり、マーカーで形を描いたりしました。明日は、もっと増やして、持って帰れるようにします。

お風呂の中でも遊べますが、遊びすぎには注意してくださいね 🙂

思い思いにデザインしたペットボトルにScrewを取り付けました。くるくる回すとビューンと上手に回り、みんな目を丸くしておどろいた後、大きな声で笑い転げました(^-^

お風呂に入れると上手に動くと思います。ペットボトルの浮力が大きすぎる場合は中に少し水を入れると安定すると思います。

この週末お風呂で楽しんでください。それぞれペットボトルの形が違うのでどんな様子で動いたのか、またみんなで話し合いましょうね！
