2025年夏休みホリデー・クラスのTopicは、「build」。様々な材料を使って工作や実験を行い、形や、どの形が一番強いのかなどについて話し合いました。ペーパークラフトを作ったり、ゲームをしたり、歌を歌ったり、4日間とは思えないくらいの盛りだくさんの内容でした。

4日間の楽しかった内容をすべてご紹介したいのですが、ここでは年長クラスの4日間を抜粋してご紹介します。Topicの「build」を中心に様々なアクティビティを子どもたちと一緒に楽しむことができました。

もちろん最終日には、お約束の「Surprise Goodbye Party」も開催。今回は、水から直接かき氷ができる機械が登場！ その仕組みにも子どもたちは興味津々。思い思いに各自が作ったかき氷も楽しむことができましたよ。

次回のCHESホリデー・クラスは、冬休みを予定しています。またみんなで楽しみましょうね。

Summer Holiday Class 2025 Day1

Welcome to the Summer Holiday Class 2025 journey! This time, we will explore different types of buildings and dive into the story of the three little pigs.

We started our day as usual with circle time. We kicked things off with some icebreaker activities, like singing and getting to know each other better. Then, we talked about the story of the three little pigs and discussed the different characters together.

After the discussion, we went upstairs and set up a little movie theater in the middle room to watch the story. As we watched, we noticed how the first two pigs didn’t seem to care much about building strong houses.

2025年夏休みクラスへ、ようこそ！今回は、様々な種類の建物を探検し、三匹の子豚の物語を深く掘り下げていきます。

いつものようにサークルタイムから一日が始まりました。まずは、歌を歌い、そしてお互いのことをもっとよく知るためのアイスブレイク活動から始めました。その後、三匹の子豚の物語について話し合い、それぞれの登場人物について一緒に話し合いました。

話し合いの後、2階に上がり、Middle Roomに小さな映画館を作り、物語を見ました。物語を見ていると、最初の2匹の子豚は、丈夫な家を建てることにあまり興味がないように見えました。

They were more focused on finishing quickly so they could play. But the third pig, he was different. He worked hard, taking his time to build a solid house that could stand strong against the big bad wolf. Unlike the others, the third pig didn’t rush.

He focused on doing his work well before he thought about playing or having fun. His hard work paid off when the wolf couldn’t blow down his house.

Then we discussed that taking our time and doing things carefully can lead to better results, even if it means we have to wait a little longer before we get to enjoy ourselves!

みんなは早く終わらせて遊ぶことに集中しています。でも、3匹目の子豚は違いました。一生懸命働き、時間をかけて、大きな悪いオオカミにも負けない頑丈な家を建てたのです。他の子豚とは違い、3匹目の子豚は急ぎませんでした。

遊ぶことや楽しむことを考える前に、まず自分の仕事をきちんと終わらせることに集中しました。オオカミが家を吹き飛ばせなかったとき、3匹目の子豚の努力は報われたのです。

時間をかけて丁寧に作業することで、たとえ楽しむまでに少し時間がかかっても、より良い結果が得られるということを話し合いました。

After learning about the story in detail, we got to work on building our own houses. Each day, we’ll focus on using the materials from the story to create our buildings.

Today, our challenge was to build the strongest house we could using straw and test if the big bad wolf could blow it down. We were divided into teams and put our creativity to work. Since we didn’t have real straw, we used paper instead, and it turned out to be a great substitute!

It was really surprising to see how each team used their imagination in different ways. In the end, one house was strong enough to stand still against the big bad wolf!

物語を詳しく学んだ後、自分たちで家を作る作業に取り組みました。毎日、物語に出てくる材料を使って建物を作ることに集中します。

今日の課題は、わらを使ってできるだけ丈夫な家を作り、大きな悪いオオカミがそれを吹き飛ばせるかどうか試すことでした。チームに分かれて創造力を駆使しました。本物のわらがなかったので、代わりに紙を使いました。そして、紙は素晴らしい代用品になりました！

各チームがそれぞれ違った方法で想像力を働かせているのを見て、本当に驚きました。最終的に、大きな悪いオオカミに負けないほど丈夫な家が1つできました。

Summer Holiday Class 2025 Day 2

In the morning, we sang our songs and played the “Golden Bridge is Falling Down” game together. After the game, we revisited yesterday’s big question: “What is the most popular material used to build houses?”

We learned that concrete is the most common material! We also discussed other popular materials like wood, bricks, and stone.

We learned about the shapes used in building construction also. We discovered that circles are important, too! People often use circles to make columns that support buildings. We also learned that triangles are the strongest shapes, and even bees use triangles to build their honeycombs.

午前中はみんなで歌を歌い、「ゴールデンブリッジが落ちた」ゲームをしました。ゲームの後は、昨日の大きな質問「家を建てるのに一番よく使われる材料は何ですか？」をもう一度考えました。

コンクリートが最も一般的な材料だと学びました。木、レンガ、石など、他にもよく使われる材料についても話し合いました。

建物の建設に使われる形についても学びました。円も重要だと分かりました。建物を支える柱を作るのに、円がよく使われます。また、三角形が最も強い形であること、そしてミツバチでさえ蜂の巣を作るのに三角形を使っていることも学びました。

Summer Holiday Class 2025 Day 3

Today’s topic was earthquakes and how to build earthquake-proof buildings. We talked about the top 5 countries that experience the most earthquakes and learned that it’s better to build flexible buildings that can sway, rather than stiff ones that might break during an earthquake.

Then came the building challenge! We had to build houses for the pigs again but this time using LEGO bricks! After everyone built their houses, the big bad wolf came back to huff and puff… but our houses were too strong!

But then, surprise! The wolf brought a hammer this time! And yes… he broke them anyway😁

今日のテーマは地震と耐震建築の作り方でした。地震発生率上位5カ国について話し合い、地震で壊れてしまうかもしれない硬い建物よりも、揺れやすい柔軟な建物を建てる方が良いことを学びました。

さて、いよいよ建築チャレンジ！またしても子豚たちの家を建てることになりましたが、今回はレゴブロックを使ってです。みんなが家を建て終わると、大きな悪いオオカミが怒鳴り散らしながら戻ってきました…でも、私たちの家はあまりにも頑丈でした！

ところが、なんとオオカミは今度はハンマーを持ってきたのです。そして…、結局、壊してしまったのです😁

Summer Holiday Class 2025 The final day

Today, we learned about the tallest building in the world! It’s in Dubai and is called Burj Khalifa. We then discussed the ways to build a tall building and what shape would be best to keep the building straight and strong. The answer was… triangle again!

We learned that for a building to carry all its weight, the bottom must be heavy and strong, which gives us the triangular shape. Then, we compared the Tokyo Tower to the Burj Khalifa and figured out how tall they are. We ended up learning that the Burj Khalifa is taller than two Tokyo Towers!

Finally, we started our last project: a mural! We worked together to create a tall building just like the Burj Khalifa. We used our imagination and let the building reach the stars! Here’s how it turned out:

今日は世界で一番高いビルについて学びました。ドバイにあるブルジュ・ハリファです。次に、高層ビルの建て方と、建物をまっすぐで丈夫に保つにはどんな形が最適か話し合いました。答えは…またしても三角形でした。

建物が全重量を支えるには、底部が重くて丈夫でなければならないことを学び、それが三角形の形につながります。次に、東京タワーとブルジュ・ハリファを比べて、それぞれの高さを計算しました。なんと、ブルジュ・ハリファは東京タワー2つ分の高さだということが分かったのです。

さて、最後のプロジェクト、壁画制作に着手しました！みんなで協力して、ブルジュ・ハリファのような高層ビルを作り上げました。想像力を駆使して、建物が星空に届くようにしました！完成した作品はこちらです。

And as promised, we had a surprise goodbye party. We enjoyed shaved ice to cool ourselves down. It was fun and delicious to eat it together with everyone.

そして、約束通り、サプライズで送別会を開きました。涼をとるためにかき氷を楽しみました。みんなで一緒に食べるのは楽しくて美味しかったです。
