「CHES春休みホリデー・クラスの募集」を開始したのが、ようやく紅白の梅の開花が始まったころだったのに、ホリデー・クラスが始まってみると、もうすでに近隣の公園では、桜がすっかり満開です！

今年度最後のCHESホリデー・クラスのTopicは、エリック・カールの絵本のしめくくり、「Little Cloud（ちいさなくも）」の物語です。小さな雲が形を変えながら、創造性と想像力を発揮する遊びの旅。「ちいさなくも」の物語がどのようにクラスの中で発展しているのか、ホリデー・クラス2日目の様子をご紹介します。

Mr. Sean’s Class

Today was the second day of the holiday class, and now that we all knew each other, it was time to do more! We already had our introduction to weather, so now it was time to talk about how the weather felt. It felt warm and fine today. Why? Because it was so sunny!

We actually used our brains to try and forecast the weather like we learned yesterday. Since there weren’t any clouds in the sky, we decided that there was a good chance it would be sunny again tomorrow. However, it’s not always sunny in spring, so anything can happen. We’ll have to see!

Where did we learn this? Well, we started the day with a video lesson on meteorology…

今日はホリデークラスの2日目、みんなお互いのことを知ったので、もっとやるぞということになりました！ 天気についての紹介はすでにしたので、今度は天気の感じ方について話すことになりました。今日は暖かく、晴れたように感じました。なぜかって？なぜなら、とても晴れていたからです！

昨日習ったように、実際に頭を使って天気予報をしてみました。空には雲がないので、明日も晴れる可能性が高いと判断しました。でも、春はいつも晴れているわけじゃないから、何が起こるかわからない。見てみないとわかりませんよね！

どこで覚えたの？ 今日はまず、気象観測のビデオレッスンで…。

In the video and from our lesson yesterday, we now had five different tools to forecast the weather.

1. Looking：Just by looking, we can sometimes tell the weather!
2. RADAR：RADAR is a special tool that can detect wind and rain. We can’t use this one ourselves.
3. Satellites：We don’t have access to satellites either, but we can check weather apps on our phone!
4. Air pressure：Hot air and cold air mixing can show us if wind or a storm is coming! Can you feel the wind?
5. Patterns：This one we can use! Patterns are when things repeat.

We know what the weather is usually like in spring because it is usually the same every year. This is useful for us to think about what the weather might be the next day or the next week.

We also looked at a video of the sun. Many of you answered the question from yesterday: how hot is the sun?

ビデオと昨日のレッスンで、私たちは今、天気を予報するための5種類の道具を手に入れました。

1. 見る：見るだけで、天気がわかることもあります！
2. レーダー：レーダーは風や雨を感知する特殊な道具です。こちらは自分たちで使うことはできません。
3. 人工衛星：私たちも衛星を利用することはできませんが、スマホの天気予報アプリで確認することができます！
4. 気圧：熱気と冷気が混ざり合うことで、風や嵐が来るかどうかがわかります！風を感じられるか？
5. パターン：これなら使える！パターンとは、物事が繰り返されることです。

春の天気は毎年同じようなものなので、私たちは通常どのようなものかを知っています。これは、次の日や次の週の天気がどうなるかを考えるのに便利です。

また、太陽のビデオも見ました。多くの人が昨日の質問に答えました：太陽はどのくらい暑いのでしょうか？

We saw the video. It showed a large solar flare happening. It looked like magma from a volcano. But really it’s much bigger and hotter. That’s right! 6000 degrees Celsius, and even hotter inside!

Our next question is this: what shape is a raindrop? You might be surprised by the answer!

Some other things we did today was:

1. Play some games and danced to some songs in circle time.
2. Read about sun and wind in our workbook.
3. Had English time where we wrote down feeling words, like “happy” and “tired”.
4. Went to the park and played “Can of Sardines（A kind of game of tag）” and “Hot and Cold”.

We also made some things, too! We made a sundial, which is a kind of old clock that can tell the time using the sun.

Every hour, we put it on flat ground and tried to align it to the north. Then, we drew a line where the shadow was on the plate.

私たちは映像を見ました。大きな太陽フレアが起きている様子が映し出されていました。それはまるで火山のマグマのように見えました。しかし、実際はもっと大きく、もっと熱いのです。その通りです！ 6000℃の高温で、内部はさらに高温です！

次の質問は、「雨粒はどんな形をしているのでしょう？」。 その答えに驚くかもしれませんよ！

その他にも、今日はいろいろなことをしました：

1. サークルタイムでゲームをしたり、歌に合わせて踊ったりしました。
2. ワークブックで太陽と風について読みました。
3. 英語の時間では、”happy “や “tired “などの気持ちを表す単語を書きました。
4. 公園に行って、”Can of Sardines（鬼ごっこのような遊び）” と “Hot and Cold” で遊びました。

また、いろいろなものを作りました！ 日時計を作りました。日時計とは、太陽の光で時間を知ることができる古い時計のようなものです。

毎時間、平らな場所に置いて、北に合わせようとしました。そして、皿の上に影ができるように線を引きました。

By 3 o’clock, our lines were overlapping. Maybe we made a mistake along the way? Either way, we’ll try again tomorrow with a real compass.

The other craft we made was a weather vane! Using a skewer and a carefully balanced paper arrow, we made a tool that could tell which way the wind is pointing. Does it work? We will have to see tomorrow, when we try it out!

3時になると、私たちの線は重なりあってしまいました。もしかしたら、途中で間違えたのだろうか。いずれにせよ、明日は本物のコンパスで再チャレンジです。

もうひとつの工作は、風見鶏です！ 串と紙の矢印をバランスよく使って、風向きを知る道具を作りました。うまくいったかな？　明日、実際に試してみましょう！

Younger Children Class

In the younger class we had a longer circle time today because we sang a bunch of fun dance songs. They really love “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!” We also sang “Mr. Sun!”

年少クラスでは、今日は楽しいダンスソングをたくさん歌ったので、サークルタイムが長くなりました。子どもたちは “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!”がとても好きです。また、”Mr. Sun!”も歌いました。

Our topic today was SUNNY! The sun rises in the East in the morning. That’s called sunrise. At lunchtime the sun is straight up above. The sun sets in the West in the evening. That’s called sunset. The sun is big, round, hot and gives light too! It’s great to be outside in the sunshine!

今日のテーマは「SUNNY」でした！ 朝、東から太陽が昇る。それを「サンライズ」と呼びます。お昼になると、太陽は真上に昇ります。夕方、太陽は西に沈む。それを「サンセット」と呼びます。太陽は大きくて、丸くて、熱くて、光も与えてくれる！ 外で太陽の光を浴びるのは素晴らしいことです！

We used our play time to do some fine motor skills! The younger kids played with foam numbers and letters and the biger kids played with tweezers.

私たちは遊びの時間を使って、細かい運動能力を発揮させました！小さな子どもたちは発泡スチロールの数字や文字で遊び、大きな子どもたちはピンセットで遊びました。

At the end of the day, we all did today’s craft! Since we talked all about the sun, we made a 3D sun craft!
