2025年度の「プリ・クラス」の卒園式は、先週無事に楽しく終えることができました。卒園式の様子は改めてお知らせしたいと思いますが、その前に卒園式を控えた「プリ・クラス」最終学齢の子どもたちの様子をお伝えします。

毎年、卒園式の前になると、小学校入学にむけて妙にテンションがあがったり、逆に卒園を控えた寂しさからか、突然テンションがさがったりと、クラスはなんだか落ち着かない雰囲気につつまれます。そんな中、3月はたくさんの楽しい行事をこなしながら、自分たちの「未来」についても話し合いました。

仕事の話や新しいテクノロジーの話など、さまざまな話題があがりました。まだまだ想像できないことばかりでしょう。でも、いまの自分たちそれぞれが想像できる未来について思いをはせながら、CHESで過ごした数年間の経験を活かして、卒園後もこれまで同様、みんな楽しく成長し続けることを願っています。

March to the Future 🤖

It is the second last week of CHES, and the last week before our graduation ceremony! Each day, we do everything will a little more weight. Maybe today will be the last time we go to the park together? Or fill out our reading record? Or…Our minds are full of what will come next this spring.

That is to say, we are thinking of the future! The future is interesting because it contains so much time. We could be talking about tomorrow, or a month from now, or a year from now, or 100 years from now! And the farther we go into the future, the more of our ideas can come true.

In April, White Owl will start in grade 1. How long will it be before they start their first jobs?

CHES「プリ・クラス」の最後の2週間、そして卒業式前の最後の週です。毎日、何をするにも少しずつ重圧を感じています。もしかしたら今日が、みんなで一緒に公園に行く最後の日になるかもしれません。読書記録をつけるのも最後になるかもしれません。あるいは…、私たちの心は、この春にこれから何が起こるのか、想像でいっぱいです。

そうです、私たちは未来のことを考えているのです。未来は、無限の時間を含んでいるので、とても興味深いものです。明日のこと、1ヶ月後のこと、1年後のこと、あるいは100年後のことまで、想像を膨らませています。そして、未来が遠ければ遠いほど、思い描く未来が現実になる可能性も高まります。

この4月には、White Owlクラスのみんなは小学校1年生になります。彼らが初めての仕事に就くまで、あと何年くらいかかるのでしょうか？

An important word  was “technology”

In the first week of March, we had spent plenty of time thinking about that kind of future. Our personal futures. Continuing on from the “people at work” topic in February, we shared ideas about what we would become. However, this week, we started talking about another kind of future: the future of the world!

An important word that we started with was technology. Technology is something new that is invented, and usually becomes helpful or common in everyday life.

The kids thought about what kind of technology was common when I was a child. Some things were surprising because they were missing (no smartphones!), but others were surprising because they were there (yes computers!). It was hard for them to gauge how old different kinds of technology were.

3月の最初の週、そんな未来についてじっくり考えました。それは、私たち自身の未来です。2月に取り上げた「働く人々」というテーマを引き継ぎ、将来どんな人間になるのか、それぞれの考えを共有しました。しかし、今週はまた別の種類の未来、つまり世界の未来について話し始めました。

まず取り上げた重要なキーワードは「テクノロジー」です。テクノロジーとは、新たに発明され、日常生活で役立つもの、あるいは身近なものとなるものです。

子どもたちは、私が子どもの頃にはどんなテクノロジーが一般的だったのかを考えました。スマートフォンなど、当時存在しなかったものには驚きましたが、コンピュータなど、当時存在していたものには驚きました。子どもたちにとって、様々なテクノロジーがどれくらい古いものなのかを判断するのは難しかったようです。

We talked about cars, computers, phones, medicine, and more. Then, we went in the opposite direction. We thought about what technology is new now, and what it might turn into in the future.

We looked at a computer and what was inside it, and thought about how wireless technology works. We thought about robots, AI, and the internet. We also talked about how lots of technology is usable, but still has problems. It’s still important to use your own brain!

We wrote a letter to our future selves. Hopefully in the future, we can look back at this letter and remember how things were now.

車、コンピュータ、電話、医療などについて話し合いました。それから全く逆の方向へ考えました。今、どんな技術が新しいのか、そしてそれが将来どう発展していくのかを考えたのです。

コンピュータとその内部構造を見て、無線技術の仕組みについて考えました。ロボット、AI、インターネットについても考えました。また、多くの技術は実用的であるものの、まだ課題も抱えていることについても話し合いました。やはり、自分の頭で考えることは大切です！

私たちは未来の自分たちに手紙を書きました。将来、この手紙を読み返して、今の状況を思い出せるといいなと思っています。

We tried a few methods of making our robot

Finally, we took what we talked about and put it into action! Using a power supply, a circuit board, a Bluetooth connector, a few blocks, and our iPad, we made our own robot!

We tried a few methods of making it do what we wanted it to. It was amazing that with just a few pieces, we could make something that could really do things.

When we put every part together, it was easy to make mistakes, but it was also easy to make improvements! Making something of our own was rewarding.

最後に話し合ったことを実践に移しました。電源、回路基板、Bluetoothコネクタ、ブロック、そしてiPadを使って、自分たちだけのロボットを作ったのです！

ロボットを思い通りに動かすために、いくつかの方法を試してみました。ほんの少しの部品で、実際に動くものが作れるなんて、本当に驚きでした。

部品を組み立てていく過程で、間違いも起こりましたが、改良するのも簡単でした。自分たちで何かを作り上げるのは、とてもやりがいのある経験でした。
