年度末が近づき、いよいよ卒園式も間近に控えた2月。この日は2月のTopic「働く人」の総仕上げとして「プリ・クラス」の全クラスで「模擬店」を開催、みんなで楽しむことにしました。

年中・年長学齢の子どもたちが用意した「商品」を売る「お店」に、年少学齢以下のお友だちを招待して、それぞれのお店でお買い物を楽しんでもらったのです。

最初は、売り込みの声にたじろいていた年少学齢以下のお友だちも、やがて自分で好きなものを楽しく選べるようになり、また年中学齢以上のお友だちは、自分たちで一生懸命考えて準備した商品を選んでもらえる満足感いっぱいのShopping Eventになりました。

Let’s Go Shopping!

This week was the third week of February, and we had already spent some time learning about different kinds of jobs. The big kids in the Red Fox and White Owl class had begun to talk about money, too. We learned what it looks like, what it is used for, and how to count it.

We had also done quite a few different roleplays of different kinds of jobs, such as police officers, construction workers, chefs, and more. One common kind of job that appeared often when we talked was a cashier, or someone who handles the money. They are needed for many different kinds of shops or markets.

We thought it was a good opportunity to practice handling money with another roleplay, this time involving the rest of the school!

2月の第3週には、私たちはすでに様々な仕事について学ぶ時間を過ごしていました。Red FoxとWhite Owlクラスの年中・年長の子どもたちも、お金について話し始めていました。お金の見た目、使い道、そして数え方を学びました。

警察官、建設作業員、シェフなど、様々な仕事のロールプレイもいくつか行いました。その中でよく登場したのが、レジ係、つまりお金を扱う人です。レジ係は、様々なお店や市場で必要とされています。

今回は、クラス以外の生徒も参加して、別のロールプレイでお金の扱い方を練習する良い機会だと思いました。

Our pretend shops needed merchandise though, so Red Fox and White Owl split into teams to think of different products to make. Using origami, we made enough products to meet demand, but not too many that we would have a lot left over.

While we worked, we recalled how real jobs work: we need to be able to work on a team and share our strengths. Everyone’s ideas should be heard!

Soon, we had a full set of products to sell. There were origami hearts, boats, cats, and airplanes. It was a good selection of different things. We weren’t sure which would be the most popular! That was another thing real job need to deal with.

でも、私たちの模擬店には商品が必要だったので、Red FoxとWhite Owlクラスはそれぞれチームに分かれて、違う商品を考えました。折り紙を使って、需要を満たすだけの商品を作りましたが、余りすぎないように注意しました。

作業中、私たちは現実の仕事のやり方を思い出しました。チームワークを大切にし、それぞれの強みを共有する必要があるのです。みんなのアイデアを聞き入れる必要がありました。

すぐに、販売する商品が一通り揃いました。折り紙で作ったハート、船、猫、飛行機など、本当に色々な商品が揃っていました。どれが一番人気になるか、私たちには分かりません。これも現実の仕事で対処しなければならないもう一つの課題でした。

Then, we invited the first wave of customers inside! The bank offered a free (pretend) 100 yen for being there on opening day.

Everyone spread out and explored the market while the different shops called out to attract customers. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but as they tightly clutched their 100-yen coins, the Blue Bird and Yellow Kangaroo friends could find something that they wanted to buy.

The shop staff were happy to sign the names of the customers on their products. By the end, we had a whole school of satisfied customers!

そして、最初のお客様のグループを店内へお招きしました。銀行は、オープン初日に来場いただいたお客様に（おもちゃの）100円を無料で提供しました。

各お店がお客様を誘う声をかけている中、お客様はあちらこちらのお店を見て回ります。最初は少し圧倒されていましたが、100円玉をしっかりと握りしめながら、Blue BirdとYellow Kangaroo（年少学齢以下）のお友だちは欲しいものを見つけることができました。

お店のスタッフは、お客様のお名前を商品に喜んでサインしてくれます。最後には、CHESの全クラス中、大満足のお客様でいっぱいになりました。

It was a fun event. The Red Fox and White Owl students got the experience of working on a team to try and make profit. We were able to look at the results and see which products were the most popular, and we discussed why that might have been.

On the other hand, Blue Bird and Yellow Kangaroo got the chance to shop with pretend money and choose something for their own.

楽しいイベントでした。Red FoxとWhite Owlクラスの子どもたちは、チームを組んで利益を上げるという経験をしました。結果を見て、どの商品が一番人気だったかを確認し、その理由について話し合いました。

一方、Blue BirdとYellow Kangarooクラスの子どもたちは、おもちゃのお金を使って買い物をし、自分の好きなものを選ぶ機会を得ることができました。
