クリスマスが近づくと、クラス中になんとなくワクワク感が漂うのは、やはりサンタの持つ影響（プレゼント）力のおかげなのでしょうか。こんなワクワク感のなか、「プリ・クラス」の各クラスでは、Christmas Assemblyの準備に大忙しです。

今年のCHES Christmas Assemblyは、19日（金）にシーサイドホテル舞子ビラ神戸の「あじさいホール」での開催。大きな舞台での開催だけに、先生方も含めてみんなドキドキしながらの準備です。Christmas Assembly終了まで、あと1週間。ワクワク、ドキドキ、そしてソワソワしながらも、みんなでCHES Christmas Assemblyを楽しみましょうね。

Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer

We have been very busy preparing for the Christmas Assembly and talking about all things related to this season. This week, we learned about Rudolph and shared everything we love about Christmas.

First, we explored the story of how Rudolph became one of Santa’s reindeer. We found out that he was born with a special red nose, which caused the other reindeer to mock and laugh at him. However, we later discovered that this difference was exactly what made him shine and allowed him to play an important role.

Christmas Assemblyの準備で、この季節に関連する様々なことを話し合うなど、Blue Bird（年少）クラスのみんなは、とても忙しく過ごしました。今週はルドルフについて学び、クリスマスの好きなところをみんなで分かち合いました。

まず、ルドルフがサンタクロースのトナカイになった経緯を学びました。彼は生まれつき赤い鼻を持っていたため、他のトナカイたちは彼をからかって笑っていました。しかし、後にこの違いこそが彼を輝かせ、重要な役割を担わせたのだと分かりました。

We talked about the importance of kindness, not hurting others’ feelings, and how our differences are what make each of us beautiful. The children were happy to learn that Rudolph eventually became one of the most important reindeer of all.

As we continue working on the Christmas assembly, we are preparing some props to use on the stage. We worked hard to prepare some cards and colored them with Christmas colors. We will use them to show you what we like about Christmas!

優しさの大切さ、他人の気持ちを傷つけないこと、そして違いこそが私たちを美しくするのだと話し合いました。子どもたちは、ルドルフがやがて一番大切なトナカイになったことを知って、とても喜んでいました。

Christmas Assemblyに向けて準備を進める中で、舞台で使う小道具を準備しています。一生懸命カードを作り、クリスマスカラーで塗りました。このカードを使って、私たちがクリスマスの好きなところを皆さんに伝えていきます！

The lead-up to Christmas

We have been busy this week, trying to juggle both talking about Christmas and decorating the classroom, and practicing for Winter Assembly and making props and costumes.

The lead-up to Christmas is always both a busy one and a fun one. I am always proud each year of how energetic and willing the children are to practice their songs and dances to get everything right.

Red Fox and White Owl have shown a lot of kindness to the children who have been absent due to illnesses by teaching them things they missed on the days they were gone and always keeping them in mind. I say it again and again, but if I didn’t have their help, we would not be able to do all the things we do in the class.

今週はクリスマスの話をしたり教室を飾り付けたり、Christmas Assembly の練習をしたり小道具や衣装を作ったりと、忙しく過ごしました。

クリスマス前の時期はいつも忙しくもあり、楽しい時期でもあります。子どもたちが歌や踊りを完璧にしようと、どれほど元気に、そして意欲的に練習に取り組んでいるか、毎年誇らしく思います。

Red Fox と White Owl（年中・年長）クラスでは、病気で欠席した子どもたちに、彼らが休んでいる間にできなかったことを教えて、いつも彼らのことを心に留めてくれるなど、たくさんの優しさを示してくれました。何度も言いますが、彼らの助けがなければ、クラスでのすべての活動を行うことはできなかったでしょう。

On the Christmas side of things, we focused on decorations and Christmas symbols this week.

We made a list of all the symbols we could think of: Santa’s hat, a chimney, stockings, snowflakes, and more. Then, we talked about why those things represented Christmas to us, and why they might have become symbols in the first place. We picked one of the most iconic ones to make a decoration out of: the green Christmas tree!

We started by thinking about how to draw the shape. It wasn’t easy. Not only did it have to be symmetrical, but each part of the tree needed to be fairly even, and not to skinny or wide. We practiced a bit and came up with the idea of drawing triangles overlapping with each other. We drew it onto green paper, decorated the tree itself, and then cut it out.

クリスマスのテーマとしては、今週は飾り付けとクリスマスのシンボルに焦点を当てました。

サンタの帽子、煙突、靴下、雪の結晶など、思いつく限りのシンボルをリストアップしました。そして、なぜそれらが私たちにとってクリスマスを象徴するのか、そしてそもそもなぜシンボルになったのかについて話し合いました。飾り付けには、最も象徴的なものの一つ、緑のクリスマスツリーを選びました！

まずは、形をどう描くかを考えました。これは簡単ではありません。左右対称であるだけでなく、ツリーの各部分が細すぎたり太すぎたりしないように、ある程度均等に描く必要がありました。少し練習した後、三角形を重ねて描くというアイデアを思いつきました。緑の紙にそれを描き、ツリー自体を飾り付けて、切り抜くことにしました。

The next step was to accordion-fold the paper! That meant we needed to fold it, turn it over, and fold it again, over and over until our tree had a zigzag pattern.

We punched a hole into the folded-up tree so it went through the whole tree, and then inserted a red straw as the trunk of the tree. After unfolding it gently, we already had a beautiful-looking ornament!

However, we weren’t finished yet. The top of our tree needed something! Using shiny origami paper and a star-shaped stencil, we cut stars out of cardboard and attached the paper to make them shine golden. We attached the stars to the top of the tree. They really brought it together, as the shiny paper made the tree sparkle!

It was a nice decoration, and although I wanted to keep them in the class, everyone agreed that they wanted to take them home to decorate their house instead.

次のステップは、紙をアコーディオン折りにすることです。 つまり、ジグザグ模様になるまで、紙を折って、裏返して、また折る、という作業を何度も繰り返す必要がありました。

折り上げた木に、木全体を貫通するように穴を開け、赤いストローを木の幹として差し込みました。優しく広げると、美しいオーナメントの完成です。

でも、まだ完成ではありません。木の上にも何かが必要でした。光沢のある折り紙と星型のステンシルを使って、ボール紙から星を切り出し、金色に輝くように折り紙を貼り付けました。星を木の上部に貼り付けました。光沢のある折り紙が木を輝かせ、星が全体の雰囲気を盛り上げてくれました。

素敵な飾りだったので、クラスで飾っておこうと思いましたが、みんな家に持ち帰って家に飾りたいと言ってくれましたよ。
