11月になりすっかり季節が進み、「プリ・クラス」のTopicも「Imagination」から「Food」に替わりました。さっそくクラスでは、食べ物の3つのカテゴリー、「Go（エネルギー）、Grow（ 筋肉の構築）、Glow（病気から守る）」の話題が始まり、明石図書館の見学の際の紙芝居でも「食べ物」の話題。

そしてこの日は、葉ですっかり覆われたCHES Gardenのサツマイモ畑の収穫。ツルや葉を手分けして丁寧に取り除き、いよいよ芋掘りの始まりです。地面深くに隠された「宝探し」のように、サツマイモを掘り当てた子どもたちは大はしゃぎ。数週間後の「焼イモ」パーティをイメージしながら、みんな大満足の収穫でした。

All About Food! / Sweet Potato Digging

Our final event of the last week was one related to the topic as well as the season: It was time to harvest our sweet potatoes!

They had been growing in our gardens for some time now, and the leaves were starting to look like a jungle! What would we find underneath? It was a big question, and seemed like a difficult task at first. But after we started working together to cut through the vines and stems, we quickly exposed the dirt below.

先週最後のイベントは、テーマにも季節にもぴったりのものでした。サツマイモの収穫の時期です！

庭でしばらく育っていたサツマイモは、葉がジャングルのように茂り始めていました！その下には一体何が隠されているのでしょうか？ それは大きな疑問で、最初は難しそうに思えました。しかし、みんなで協力して蔓や茎を切り始めると、すぐに土が姿を現しました。

It wasn’t too long before we had cut away the leaves and collected them all bags. We had worked hard, and it was time for the fun part now.

It was like a treasure hunt! By following the stems and roots that stuck out of the soil, we found some treasure in the ground. Over and over, the pinky-red color of the sweet potatoes caused us to shout in surprise as we unearthed it. When we were done, both teams had found plenty to go around!

あっという間に葉っぱを刈り取り、袋いっぱいに集めました。一生懸命頑張ってきたので、いよいよ楽しい作業です。

さあ、掘ろう！

まるで宝探し！ 土から伸びた茎や根をたどっていくと、土の中から宝物を見つけました。ピンク色のサツマイモを掘り出すたびに、私たちは何度も驚きの声を上げました。作業が終わると、両チームともたくさんのサツマイモを見つけることができたのです。

A lot to learn about food

The sweet potatoes made us excited for what we would turn them into later this month when it was finally time to cook them.

For now, though, we would have to be patient as we give them time to dry and become tastier. We have plenty to do in the meantime though. There is a lot to learn about food, and we will do our best to learn as much as we can.

This week, we will have a special guest and enjoy some more food-related activities. Let’s enjoy learning together!

今月後半にはいよいよ調理する時が来るので、サツマイモをどんな風に仕上げようかとワクワクしています。

でも今は、サツマイモが乾燥して美味しくなるまで、辛抱強く待つしかありません。でも、その間にやることはたくさんあります。食について学ぶことはたくさんあります。できる限り多くのことを学べるよう、頑張ります。
