先週の金曜日に「プリ・クラス」新年恒例のお餅つき大会を開催。今年は合計6升のもち米を3回に分けてつき上げる大餅つき大会となりましたが、事前に各クラスともお餅つきの練習をしていたこともあり、スムーズにお餅つきを楽しむことができました。

お手伝いいただいた保護者の方々、本当にお世話になりました。おかげで、子どもたちは大満足の様子でした。本当にありがとうございました。

Red Fox and White Owl Class

We enjoyed a lively session of mochi pounding at CHES. It went well and everyone got a chance to participate.

Thank you to the White Owl parents who joined today. I hope everyone can enjoy the chewy mochi that we made together at CHES.

CHESで、賑やかな餅つきを楽しみました。大盛況で、全員が参加することができました。

本日ご参加いただいたWhite Owlクラスの保護者の皆様、ありがとうございました。CHESで一緒につくったもちもちの餅を、皆様に楽しんでいただければ幸いです。

We had fun practicing beforehand with toy hammers and pool noodles. We talked about traditions, like why we make mochi in the winter. We also talked about physics, and why it is important to hold the hammer near the top, and why it needs to be heavy. The current Red Fox and White Owl are endlessly curious about new things.

おもちゃのハンマーとプール・ヌードル（水泳の補助具）を使って、事前に楽しく練習しました。冬に餅をつく理由など、伝統的な行事についても話しました。また、ハンマー（杵）の一番上の方を持つことがなぜ重要なのか、なぜ重くなければならないのかといった法則についても話しました。Red FoxとWhite Owlクラスのみんなは、新しいことへの好奇心が尽きません。

Blue Bird Class

We had the exciting event of Mochi Pounding! The children have been looking forward to it since the beginning of the week, and we prepared for this event together throughout the week.

We talked about mochi and practiced pounding by learning how to hold the mallet, first using a plastic hammer. Since the real mallet is quite heavy, we learned how to hold it properly and safely. We also practiced working together in rhythm by saying “わっしょい!”.

楽しい餅つきイベントがありました。子どもたちは週の初めから楽しみにしていて、一週間かけてみんなで準備してきました。

餅について話をした後、プラスチック製のハンマーを使って杵の持ち方を習い、餅つきの練習をしました。本物の杵はかなり重いので、正しく安全に持つ方法を学びました。また、「わっしょい！」と声を掛け合いながら、みんなでリズムを合わせて餅をつく練習もしました。

We used the steamed rice that Ms. Masami prepared for us and began pounding it with the heavy wooden mallet.　Magically, it turned into sticky dough! Then, with the help of White Owl parents, we rolled it into mochi shapes.

The children worked very hard! We hope you enjoy sharing and eating mochi together.

Ms. Masamiが用意してくれた蒸したお米を、重い木槌でつき始めました。すると、魔法のようにもちもちの餅になりました。そして、White Owlクラスの保護者の皆さんに手伝ってもらいながら、餅の形に丸めました。

子どもたちは本当に頑張ってくれました。みんなで餅を分け合って、一緒に食べてくださいね。

Yellow Kangaroo Class

We were happy to pound the mochi. We hit and hit while saying ‘Washoi, Washoi!’ The kids love to shout so they really enjoyed it!

餅つきは楽しかったです。「わっしょい、わっしょい！」と言いながら、何度も何度も餅をつきました。子どもたちは声を出すのが大好きなので、本当に楽しかったです！
