「プリ・クラス」では、6月のTopicのひとつ「My Friends and Community」の学びを深めているのですが、先週のすっかり夏を思わせるお天気の日には、授業よりもキュウリの収穫のほうがおもわず盛り上がってしまったようです。

もうすぐ夏本番。それほどあせらなくてもCHES Gardenの夏野菜はこれからもたくさん収穫できるはず。もうしばらくは梅雨空は続きそうなので、しばらくはクラスの中でTopicを楽しんでいきましょうね。

Enjoying a Summery Harvest

After Father’s Day, we had plenty to think about when it came to things we loved. We thought about our family tree and who counts as being in our family. We thought about friends, pets, teachers, and classmates too. There are a lot of different kinds of love.

And what about our homes? Our family usually shares a home. We keep all the things we love there, and we do things we love there too.

We tried to imagine being in our homes and drew them from memory. We talked about the difference between houses and apartments. We talked about how animals have homes too, and what kinds of homes they live in.

父の日が過ぎてから、私たちは大好きなものについてたくさんのことを考えました。誰が家族の一員なのかという血縁関係を考えました。友だち、ペット、先生、クラスメートについても考えました。愛には様々な形があります。

では、私たちの家はどうでしょうか？ 家族はたいてい同じ家を共有しています。大好きなものはすべてそこに保管し、好きなことをそこでしています。

自分が家にいるところを想像し、記憶を頼りに絵を描きました。家とアパートの違いについて話しました。動物にも家があること、そしてどんな家に住んでいるのかについて話しました。

We also talked about friends and how we try and keep a good relationship with them, so we’ll want to see them every day.

We chatted with our friends and interviewed them, asking questions and writing them down. Maybe later in the week, we will see the results of our friend survey!

However, the most impactful thing this week has been the weather! It has gotten super-hot all of a sudden. We are sweaty every day! We make sure to always drink a lot. This is a sign that summer is just about here. And another sign is that our cucumbers from CHES garden are ready to be harvested!

友だちについても話しました。良い関係を保てるよう、毎日会いたくなるような方法について話しました。

友だちとおしゃべりしたり、インタビューしたり、質問をしたり、それを書き留めたりしました。もしかしたら、今週後半には友だちアンケートの結果がわかるかもしれません。

でも、今週一番印象的だったのは天気です。急にすごく暑くなりました。毎日汗だくです。いつもたくさん水分を摂るようにしています。夏がもうすぐそこまで来ている証拠ですね。そして、CHESガーデンのキュウリが収穫の時期を迎えているのも、この時期の兆候です。

A few students went to retrieve the cucumbers. They were big and ready to be picked! We felt their prickly skin as we carefully cut them from the plant. After washing them and cleaning them though, they were ready to eat right away!

As usual, they were quite popular! Three big cucumbers disappeared in just a few minutes. The taste was sweeter and juicier than other cucumbers. It was a great treat!

We can really respect the hard work of farmers, gardeners, and other workers who help plants grow. We are lucky Mr. Tai takes good care of the garden, so we can share in the food when it is ready to harvest.

Hopefully there will be even more to eat before the summer is over!

数人の生徒がキュウリを取りに行きました。大きく実っていて、収穫の準備はできています。慎重に切り取ると、表面はとげとげした感触。でも、洗ってきれいにすると、すぐに食べられるようになりました。

毎年のように、とても人気です。大きなキュウリが3本、ほんの数分でなくなってしまいました。味は他のキュウリよりも甘くてジューシーで、とてもおいしかったです。

農家の方、庭師の方、そして植物を育てるその他の方々の努力には本当に頭が下がります。Mr. Taiが畑を丁寧に手入れしてくれるので、収穫の時期になると、その野菜を分けて食べられるのは幸運です。

夏が終わる前に、もっとたくさん食べられるといいですね！
