ゴールデン・ウィークはいかがお過ごしだったでしょうか。新年度、せっかく新しいクラスに慣れ始めた子どもたちも、長いお休みの間にすっかり元にもどってしまうのではないかと心配していましたが、休み明けの子どもたちが、意気揚々とたくさんのお土産話とともに元気に登園してくれて、ほっと一息です。

先週は、「こどもの日」にむけて各クラスでさまざまな取り組みがありました。特にBlue Bird（年少学齢）以上のクラスでは、ハサミで切ったりノリで付けたり、折り紙も「自分自身でやり遂げる」姿がみられるようになって、新学齢なりの成長がみられるようになりましたよ。

Can you believe May is already here?

We made it to the end of the first month of the school year. Do you feel wiser? Did you learn something new? I hope so!

Today in White Owl’s literacy time, we talked about making mistakes and making connections in our brain. If you get your homework back with lots of mistakes on it, your brain just learned a lot more! With one month completed, we are on our way to make plenty more mistakes and build plenty more bridges in our brain. We have lots of time to learn!

もう5月だなんて信じられますか？ 新学期最初の月が終わりました。賢くなったと感じますか？何か新しいことを学びましたか？そう願っています。

White Owlクラスの読み・書きの時間では、間違いをすることと脳内でのつながりについてお話しました。宿題にたくさんの間違いがあったら、脳はより多くのことを学んだということなのです。1ヶ月が過ぎ、これからもっとたくさんの間違いをしても、脳内でたくさんのつながりを築いていくことになります。学ぶ時間はたっぷりありますよ。

We enjoyed our time this week preparing for Children’s Day. We talked about why we celebrate it and why we have a day for children at all.

Growing up is important, and growing up in a good environment with help and support is the best. We at CHES all help and support each other, so we are well on our way to a healthy and strong future. And that’s why we have the symbol of the koi and the helmet, to hope that we grow healthy and safe.

By the way, I asked the kids why adults don’t have an Adult’s Day. They told me that adults already celebrated Children’s Day when they were kids, so they don’t need it. Fair enough😝

今週は「こどもの日」に向けて楽しい時間を過ごし、なぜこどもの日を祝うのか、そしてなぜこどもの日があるのかを話し合いました。

成長することは大切です。そして、良い環境で助け合い、支え合いながら育つことが一番です。CHESではみんながお互いに助け合い、支え合うことで、健康で力強い未来へと向かっています。だからこそ、鯉と兜のシンボルは、私たちが健康で安全に成長することを願うものです。

ところで、「大人には、なぜ大人の日がないのか？」と子どもたちに聞いてみました。「大人は子どもの頃にこどもの日を祝っていたから、大人の日なんて必要ない」と。まあ、なるほどの答えでした😝

We started with the fish.

We talked about how salmon swim all the way back upstream when they are ready to lay eggs. We learned how difficult it is for them to leap all the way up waterfalls.

Carp are similar. They need to be powerful, healthy, and strong to make it to their destination. We hope that we can be as resourceful as those fish!

Using paper and some tools like scissors and our rulers, we carefully made the shape of the fish. We added eyes and scales, and folded the end so we could attach a string. We did our best to do it all on our own.

まずは魚の話から始めました。鮭は産卵の準備ができると、ずっと上流まで泳いで戻ることについて話しました。鮭が滝をずっと登っていくことが、いかに難しいかを学びました。

鯉も同じようなもので、目的地にたどり着くには、力強く、健康で、そしてたくましくなければなりません。私たちもあの魚たちのように、知恵を絞って生きていきたいですよね。

紙とハサミ、定規などの道具を使って、魚の形を丁寧に形作りました。目や鱗をつけ、端を折り曲げて紐をつけました。全部自分たちでできるように、みんなで頑張りました。

Next, we worked on making the kabuto helmet.

Helmets were used when fighting, so they needed to be strong, and most of all, protect the wearer. We hope that we can be safe from harm and grow up without too many hardships.

Ms. Masami joined us for an origami lesson! We folded the paper in some tricky ways, but with teamwork and patience, we completed our helmets. It felt good to complete our craft about Children’s Day by ourselves.

It was a good sign that we were growing up👍

次に、兜作りに取り組みました。兜は戦いの時に使うものなので、丈夫で、そして何よりもかぶる人を守ることが求められます。子どもたちが災難から守られ、苦労なく成長できるよう願っています。

まさみ先生も一緒に折り紙教室に参加してくれました。折り紙の折り方は少し難しかったですが、チームワークと忍耐力で、無事に兜を完成させることができました。こどもの日の工作を自分たちで完成させることができてとても嬉しかったです。

みんなの成長を実感することができました👍
