4月21日に「Easter Hunt」を全クラスで楽しんだ翌日、22日は「The Earth Day（地球の日）」。テーマがテーマだけに、クラスの雰囲気が少しは落ち着くのかと思いきや、朝のサークル・タイムが終わると、いつも通り全クラスで公園に出発。

年少学齢以下のお友だちのサポートをしながら公園に到着すると、さっそく年中学齢以上のRed FoxとWhite Owlの子どもたちは、軍手とトングを身につけて「Clean-up Drive（清掃活動）」にはりきって出かけていきました。

いつも遊んでいる公園だけに、子どもたちの意気込みもかなりのもので、公園を少しでもきれいにできたことに大満足の様子でした👍

April 22nd is Earth Day🌏

With the excitement of Easter still recent in our minds, we had another event today! Spring and Easter is all about new life and growth in nature, so what was this next event?

Earth Day, of course! What is Earth Day? Well, it’s the day that we take time to think about how important the Earth is and what we can do to help it.

In the morning, we started by talking about who lives on the Earth. Every living thing we could think of was on the Earth! It’s home to everything we know, and there is only one Earth. What would happen if we lost it?

イースターの興奮がまだ冷めやらぬ中、今日はもうひとつのイベントがありました！春とイースターといえば、自然の新たな生命と成長を祝う季節です。さて、次のイベントは何でしょう？

もちろん、「地球の日」です。地球の日ってなんでしょうか？ 地球がいかに大切か、そして地球のためになにができるのかをじっくり考える日です。

午前中は、地球には誰が住んでいるのかという話から始まりました。思いつく限りのあらゆる生き物が地球に住んでいます。地球は私たちが知るすべてのものの故郷であり、地球は一つしかありません。もし地球がなくなったらどうなるのでしょうか？

Clean-up Drive

We thought about how human beings are very powerful. How many people live on Earth? 100? 1 million? Closer to 10 billion! With that many people driving cars, making farms, talking on phones, and so on, we have a lot of power in the world. It is up to us to think about how we use that power.

Are we on the good team or the bad team? Do we save energy or waste it? Do we pick up garbage, or throw it on the ground?

To raise awareness for the Earth and to try and do something nice, we decided to do a clean-up drive today!

人間がいかに大きな力を持っているのか、私たちは考えました。地球上には何人住んでいるのでしょうか？100人？100万人？いや、100億人に近いでしょう！これだけの人が車を運転し、農場を作り、電話で話すことで、私たちは世界において大きな力を持っています。その力をどう使うかを考えるのは私たち次第です。

私たちは良いチームなのでしょうか、それとも悪いチームなのでしょうか？ エネルギーを節約しますか、それとも無駄にしますか？ ゴミを拾いますか、それとも地面に捨てますか？

地球への意識を高め、なにか良いことをしようと、今日はClean-up Drive（清掃活動）を行うことにしました。

After helping Yellow Kangaroo and Blue Bird go to the park, we changed into our gloves, grabbed our tongs, and found a buddy. We would clean up the Earth, one piece of garbage at a time!

We started at small park, but we soon found that someone else had started cleaning up already. It was completely clean! While we wanted the chance to clean, it was nice to know that someone else was on the good team too. We had a second plan though, so we headed off to our next destination, eyes peeled for trash.

Yellow KangarooとBlue Birdのお友だちを公園へ送っていった後、手袋をつけてトングを手に、バディを組みました。ゴミを一つずつ拾い集め、地球をきれいにしていくのです。

Small Parkからスタートしましたが、すぐに誰かがすでに掃除を始めていました。すっかりきれいになっていました。私たちも掃除をしたい気持ちはありましたが、他にも協力してくれる人がいると分かって安心しました。でも、別の計画があったので、ゴミに気を付けながら次の目的地へ向かいます。

At big park, it didn’t take us long to find a whole bunch of garbage. Around and under the stairs were lots of discarded snack wrappers and bottles. We teamed up to pick it all up!

We made sure to be careful while touching garbage, using only gloves or tongs. We watched our heads while under low-hanging areas. We called the teacher when finding glass or other dangerous-looking pieces of trash. Soon, the area looked much nicer than before. We thought about how others might be surprised when they saw it, like we were with small park!

We moved through the park area by area, cleaning it out as we went. After about an hour of work, we made it to the end of our circuit. We had found plenty of garbage of all kinds, and definitely made the Earth a little bit cleaner.

Big Parkでは、あっという間にたくさんのゴミを見つけました。階段の周りや下には、たくさんのお菓子の包み紙や瓶が捨てられています。みんなで力を合わせて、全部拾いました。

ゴミに触れる際は、手袋かトングを使うなど、細心の注意を払いました。低い場所にはいるときは、頭上に注意。ガラスや危険そうなゴミを見つけたら、先生を呼びました。やがて公園は以前よりもずっときれいになりました。Small Parkを見た時に考えたように、他の人はきれいになっているのを見て驚くのかもしれないと想像しました。

公園をエリアごとに回りながら、歩きながら掃除をしました。約1時間の作業で、ようやくゴールに到着しました。たくさんの種類のゴミを見つけ、地球を少しきれいにすることができました。

みんな、よく頑張りました！

Remember the Earth Day

Remember, Earth Day is just a day to remember what we should be doing. You can do a clean-up drive whenever you want! Just make sure you go with an adult and don’t touch the garbage with your bare hands.

In order to help us remember our duty to the Earth we live on, we decided to make posters together that would remind us every day. We teamed up, like we usually do, and were assigned a letter. We designed it nicely, and at the end, we spelled a secret message! Well… can you read it? 😅

We spend our precious time on the Earth every day. We drink water, use energy, eat food, and breathe air that comes from this Earth.

Thank you, Earth! We 💚 you!

忘れてはならないのは、地球の日は私たちがすべきことを思い出すための日に過ぎないということです。いつでも好きな時にClean-up Driveに参加できます。ただし、必ず大人と一緒に行き、ゴミに素手で触れないようにしてください。

私たちが住む地球への義務を忘れないように、毎日思い出させてくれるポスターを一緒に作ることにしました。いつものようにチームを組み、文字を割り当てられました。素敵なデザインで仕上げ、最後に秘密のメッセージを綴りました。ところで…そのメッセージは読めるでしょうか？😅

私たちは毎日、地球上で貴重な時間を過ごしています。水を飲み、エネルギーを使い、食べ物を食べ、この地球から生まれた空気を吸っています。
