新年度が始まり2週間。各クラスとも少しずつ落ち着きを見せ始めています。4月の「プリ・クラス」のTopicは、クラスのルールと友だちや先生との関係性です。

みんなで話し合いながら「Good Student Board」と「Good Friend Board」を作成、さらに「信頼」の重要性を確認するために二人一組で実演をとりいれて楽しく学びを深めていきました。

とはいえ、まだ今年度は始まったばかり。今回体験した「信頼」をもとに、これから1年、みんな仲良くさまざまなことを英語で楽しく学んでいきましょうね。

We Make Good Friends!

Another week has gone by. Now we have finished two weeks at CHES this year. Already we can feel growth among ourselves and friends. We are better students and better friends than we were last week!

Our ongoing projects have helped us with that. Finally, our Good Student Board and Good Friend Board have been completed and hung up in the class. It was a fun project that allowed us to not only recall the school rules and brainstorm similar ideas, but to work closely together with our friends.

もう1週間が過ぎました。今年度のCHESでの2週間が終わりました。すでに私たち自身と友だちの成長を感じています。先週よりも、私たちはより良い生徒であり、より良い友だちです。

進行中のプロジェクトがその成長を支えてくれたのです。ついに「Good Student Board」と「Good Friend Board」が完成し、教室に掲示しました。教室のルールを思い出したり、似たようなアイデアを出し合ったりするだけでなく、友だちとも密接に協力し合うことができた楽しいプロジェクトでした。

We took some time today to talk about making comparisons, and we compared being a good student to being a good friend.

We knew they were different things, but there was surely a lot in common too. We came up with many things that are good for both, like speaking, thinking, asking, and being kind. These things are always good to do at school!

Being a good friend is just the beginning, though. To be a great friend, you need your friends to trust you.

今日は比較について少し時間を取って話し合いました。良い生徒であることと良い友だちであることを比較してみたのです。

この2つは違うものだと分かっていましたが、共通点もたくさんありました。話すこと、考えること、質問すること、親切にすることなど、どちらにも良い点がたくさんありました。これらは教室でいつでも実践できる良いことです。

良い友だちであることは、ほんの始まりに過ぎません。素晴らしい友だちになるためには、友だちから信頼されることが不可欠です。

How trust is important!

We talked about how trust is important too. If a teacher can trust their students, then the teacher can give them more responsibilities and try more exciting things.

We demonstrated trust by pairing up and having one friend wear a blindfold. The other needed to lead them around an obstacle course with jumps and steps!

They used their hand and their voice to give commands and protect them from danger. It was a little bit scary! But by trusting our friends, we all made it to the end!

信頼の大切さについても話し合いました。先生が生徒を信頼できれば、生徒にもっと多くの責任を与え、もっと楽しいことに挑戦させることができます。

二人一組になり、片方の友だちに目隠しをしてもらい、もう片方の友だちがジャンプや階段のある障害物コースを先導することで、信頼関係を証明しました。

手と声を使って指示を出し、危険から友だちを守りました。少し怖かったですが、友だちを信頼することで、みんな最後までやり遂げることができたのです。

Grow some beautiful tulips

The weather is nice now, but it was raining quite a lot yesterday. Because of the changing weather, we decided to stay in and work on something instead.

In order to combine our topics of spring and learning about ourselves, we decided to grow some beautiful tulips in a flower pot! Each tulip had a letter of our name on it.

We spent time before the craft tallying all the names in our classes and all the letters too.

いい天気だったのですが、昨日はかなり雨が降っていました。天気が変わりやすいので、教室でなにか作業をすることにしました。

4月のTopicと自分自身について学ぶことを組み合わせるために、フラワー・ポットで美しいチューリップを育てることにしたのです。それぞれのチューリップには、私たちの名前の文字が刻まれています。

工作を始める前に、クラスの全員の名前と文字を数える時間を取りました。

Beautiful flower pots!

Then, we thought about the colors. When you plant flowers, they might have a certain variety that have different colors or petals.

We decided to make each letter of the alphabet a specific color, and then see what colorful patterns our names created! For example, R was Red, and Y was Yellow. But because we had so many letters, we made some mixed colors too! C became Cotton Candy (purple + pink), T became Tasty Peach (pink + orange), and so on. We ended up with some beautiful flower pots!

Next week, depending on the weather, we might have a chance to plant some real flowers! We will make sure to enjoy the season of growth by planting our own seeds. Hopefully we can make something beautiful again.

For now, we will continue working hard to be good students and good friends.

それから、色について考えました。花を植える時、花の色や花びらの異なる品種があるかもしれません。

アルファベットの各文字を特定の色にして、名前がどんなカラフルな模様を作るか試してみることにしたのです。例えば、Rは赤、Yは黄色です。でも、文字の数が多いので、混ぜた色も作りました。Cはコットンキャンディー（紫＋ピンク）、Tはテイスティピーチ（ピンク＋オレンジ）などです。最終的には素敵なフラワー・ポットができあがりましたよ。

来週は、天気次第では本物の花を植えるチャンスがあるかもしれません。自分たちで種を植えて、成長の季節を楽しみましょう。またなにか美しいものを作れるといいですね。

さしあたり今は、良い生徒、そして良い友だちになれるようにこれからも努力を続けていきます。
