今回のCHES春休みホリデー・クラスのTopicは、エリック・カール作の「From Head to Toe」。この絵本にはユニークな動きをする動物たちがたくさん登場します。 絵本の動物のように動くことができるのか、 動物たちの動きのまねを一緒にすることから始まりました。動物の動きをまねしながら、「動物は何を食べているのだろう？」「どんな生活をしているのだろう？」と考え、推測していきました。

そして最終日のテーマは「Save the Jungle」。Jungleについて学んだ後、子どもたちが各グループごとに描いたポスターを合わせると、大きなハートができあがったのです。

もちろん、最終日恒例のお別れ会は、おいしいおやつもみんなで楽しみましたよ。

次回のCHESホリデー・クラスは、夏休みを予定しています。またみんなで楽しみましょう。

Day 5: Save the Jungle

Hello and welcome to the last day of the holiday class!

We had a great time this March. We made new friends, learned new things, and played new games. We created things together and ate food together. When it comes to the jungles of the world, there is so much to learn. We only just scratched the surface!

こんにちは、ホリデー クラスの最終日にようこそ！

この 3 月ホリデー・クラスでは楽しい時間を過ごしました。新しい友だちができ、新しいことを学び、新しいゲームをしました。一緒に何かを作ったり、一緒に食事をしたりしました。世界のジャングルに関しては、学ぶべきことがたくさんあります。私たちはまだ表面を少しかじっただけです。

Games：We played all kinds of games this time

One of our favorites was the “Run Rabbit Run” game in the park where we needed to scamper across the park without getting caught by the jaguars. It was exciting for both sides, and was commonly requested by the kids.

Another was the “Cat and Mouse” game. Everyone made a circle around the mouse, and the cat would try and catch them while moving in and out of the circle. Every time the cat or mouse went through the circle though, that door closed! It was fun both inside and outside.

We played a variant of “Duck Duck Goose” that we titled “Snake Snake Deer” where we chased each other around a circle. We also played a game where a detective would need to spot which predator was “winking” at the prey.

There were many more beyond that. We were able to enjoy moving and playing together while keeping the theme of predators and prey in the jungle. Prey need to move fast, hide, or be clever to avoid the dangerous predators!

ゲーム：今回はいろいろなゲームをしました。お気に入りの 1 つは、公園でジャガーに捕まらないように公園を駆け抜ける「うさぎの走り」ゲームです。これは双方にとってエキサイティングで、子どもたちがよくリクエストしていました。

もう 1 つは「猫とネズミ」ゲームです。みんながネズミの周りに輪を作り、猫は円の中を出たり入ったりしながらネズミを捕まえようとします。ただし、猫やネズミが円の中を通り抜けるたびに、ドアが閉まります。屋内でも屋外でも楽しかったです。

「アヒル、アヒル、ガチョウ」のバリエーションの「ヘビ、ヘビ、鹿」と名付けたゲームをしました。円の中でお互いを追いかけ合いましす。また、探偵が獲物に「ウィンク」している捕食者を見つけるゲームもしました。

それ以外にもたくさんのゲームがありました。「ジャングルの捕食者と獲物」というTopicに沿い、一緒に動いたり遊んだりして楽しむことができました。獲物は、危険な捕食者を避けるために、素早く動いたり、隠れたり、賢く行動したりする必要があります。

Learning About the Topic

We approached the topic from two angles: animals in the jungle, and what jungles are. We learned about all different kinds of animals that live in the jungle and what their roles are. We also learned about where jungles are in the world, how they are structured, and why. We learned about the weather, environment, and also why jungles are important.

Today, we learned about orangutans, and how they are like “people of the jungle”. They can do many things that people can do!

We also learned how they are unfortunately critically endangered. In fact, a lot of the jungle is in danger of being cut down by people looking to expand cities, factories, or farms. We thought about what a balance would look like, and how to make our voices heard.

It seems like our vision was shared with the students! They agreed that seeing all the trees cut down in the forests made them sad or angry. They drew posters about protecting trees and the Earth. When we put all our posters together, they made a heart!

トピックについて学ぶ

ジャングルの動物とジャングルとは何かという2つの角度からこのTopicに取り組みました。ジャングルに住むさまざまな動物とその役割について学びました。また、ジャングルが世界のどこにあるのか、どのように構成されているのか、そしてその理由についても学びました。天気、環境、そしてジャングルがなぜ重要なのかについて学びました。

オランウータンについて、そしてオランウータンが「ジャングルの人」のようなものであることを学びました。人間と同じように多くのことをすることができます。

また、残念ながらオランウータンが絶滅の危機に瀕していることも学びました。実際、ジャングルの多くは、都市、工場、農場の拡大を目指す人々によって伐採される危険にさらされています。バランスがどのようなものになるか、そして私たちの声をどのように届けるかを考えました。

ビジョンは生徒たちと共有されたようです。生徒たちは、森の木々がすべて伐採されるのを見ると悲しくなったり怒ったりすることに同意しました。生徒たちは木々や地球を守ることに関するポスターを描きました。みんなのポスターを合わせるとハートができたのです。

Other Fun Stuff

Of course, we did plenty of other fun things too! Our dioramas from Wednesday were mostly completed yesterday, and they looked really great.

We had quizzes and games in the classroom. We learned some dances and moved to the beat to cool down. We constantly helped each other learn and remember what we learned.

And, as a little bonus, we were able to enjoy a special goodbye party together! We got some mango syrup straight from the jungle (actually the supermarket) and strawberry too. We mixed it to make “fruche”, a kind of fruity yogurt mix. It was kind of magic how the syrup became thick when mixed with milk.

It was super tasty! We were happy to be able to enjoy it together.

その他の楽しいこと

もちろん、他にもたくさんの楽しいことをしました。水曜日に作ったジオラマは昨日ほとんど完成し、とても素敵でした。

教室ではクイズやゲームをしました。ダンスを習ったり、リズムに合わせて踊ったりしてクールダウンしました。お互いに助け合って、学んだことを覚えました。

そして、ちょっとしたおまけとして、特別なお別れパーティーを一緒に楽しむことができたのです。ジャングル（実際にはスーパーマーケット）から直接マンゴーとイチゴのシロップを手に入れました。それを混ぜて「フルーチェ」を作りました。これはフルーツ・ヨーグルト・ミックスの一種です。牛乳と混ぜるとシロップが濃くなるのは魔法のようでした。

とてもおいしかったです。一緒に楽しむことができて嬉しかったです。

We thought today about what jungle animals we would like to be, if we had to choose. Most of us chose jaguars, because they were fast, cute, or the top of the food chain.

But some of us chose birds or monkeys because we could eat fruit all day. That was my choice too! The fruche was yummy and smooth. It was a good end to the holiday class.

今日は、ジャングルの動物のうち、どれになりたいか考えました。ほとんどの人は、足が速くてかわいくて、食物連鎖の頂点に立つジャガーを選びました。

でも、一日中フルーツを食べられるので、鳥やサルを選んだ人もいました。私もそうしました。フルーツはおいしくて、なめらかでした。ホリデー クラスの締めくくりにぴったりでした。
