今回は年中・年長学齢（Red Fox・White Owl）のクラスの消防署探検です。CHESから垂水消防署まで公共のバスに乗って行くので、より探検ムードが一杯。しかも、さすがに年中・年長学齢だけあって、いろいろなことを体験させてもらいながら、学びも多かったようです。

垂水消防署の消防士のみなさん、お忙しい中やさしく丁寧に対応をしていただきありがとうございました。

The Fire Station Expedition🧑‍🚒

Is that the sound of a bell ringing?! Is there an emergency? Did you call 119? Quick, put on your boots, pants, belt, jacket, helmet, oxygen tank, gas mask, and gloves! Unroll the hose! Attach the nozzle! And SPRAY!

That’s right: today we visited the Kobe Municipal Tarumi Fire Department! We were attentive and saw how firefighters prepare for an emergency. They can be ready in less than 5 minutes! How about you? How long does it take you to be ready to go in the morning?

We met in the morning, already excited from our long weekend and ready for something interesting today. During our circle time, we talked about safety and politeness while riding the bus, as well as everything we needed to bring. As we went over the steps, it began to feel like an expedition!

ベルが鳴っていますか？ 緊急事態ですか？ 119番に電話しましたか？ 急いで、ブーツ、ズボン、ベルト、ジャケット、ヘルメット、酸素ボンベ、ガスマスク、手袋を着けてください！ ホースを広げてください！ ノズルを取り付けてください！ そしてスプレーしてください！

そうです。今日は神戸市垂水消防署を訪問しました。私たちは注意深く見守り、消防士が緊急事態にどのように備えるかを見ました。彼らは5分もかからずに準備できます。みんなはどうですか？ 朝の準備にどれくらい時間がかかりますか？

朝集合したときには、長い週末ですでに興奮しており、今日何か面白いことをする準備ができていました。サークルタイムでは、バスに乗る際の安全と礼儀、そして持っていく必要のあるものについて話しました。手順を確認しているうちに、探検のように感じ始めました。

Soon enough, we were outside and heading to the bus stop. Riding the bus was different than riding the train. We needed to be aware of the people around us and respectful of the passengers and driver. We did a very good job, and everyone helped their buddies find a place to sit or hold on. It didn’t take long to arrive, and we were soon welcomed by firefighters!

すぐに私たちは外に出てバス停に向かいました。バスに乗るのは電車に乗るのとは違います。周りの人に気を配り、乗客や運転手に敬意を払う必要がありました。私たちはとてもよくやりました。みんなで仲間が座ったりつかまったりできる場所を見つけるのを手伝いました。到着するまでにそれほど時間はかからず、すぐに消防士たちが私たちを迎えてくれました。

The ambulance

There were many different vehicles to see. We started the tour with the ambulance. The ambulance is unique because it is used only for helping sick or injured people. We got to see the ambulance’s lights and even go inside! There were many medical devices and interesting things that made us wonder. It must be a lot of work to become an ambulance driver. There is a lot to learn!

見るべき車両はいろいろありました。私たちは救急車からツアーを始めました。救急車は、病人やけが人を助けるためだけに使われるという点でユニークです。救急車のライトを見たり、車内にはいったりすることもできました。医療機器や興味深いものがたくさんあり、興味をそそられました。救急車の運転手になるには大変な仕事ですね。学ぶことがたくさんあります。

The Rescue Truck

Next up was the rescue truck. It was a special kind of firetruck that had different attachments and tools especially for rescuing people who are hurt or trapped.

We got a demonstration of the different tools. There was the engine cutter, chainsaw, spreader, and cutter! They all had situations where they would work best in. For example, the engine cutter could cut through metal or concrete. The chainsaw was for wood. The spreader can pry things open, and the cutter can crush through anything, even cars!

We got to see the cutter and spreader slice and squish a metal can like it was paper. That’s a lot of power!

次は救助車です。これは、けがをしたり閉じ込められたりした人を救助するためのさまざまなアタッチメントやツールを備えた特別な種類の消防車です。

さまざまなツールのデモンストレーションを受けました。エンジンカッター、チェーンソー、スプレッダー、カッターがありました。それぞれに、最も効果を発揮する状況があります。たとえば、エンジンカッターは金属やコンクリートを切断できます。チェーンソーは木材用です。スプレッダーは物をこじ開けることができ、カッターは車でさえも何でも押しつぶすことができます。

カッターとスプレッダーが金属缶を紙のように切り裂いたり押し潰したりするのを見ました。すごいパワーですね！

The Ladder Truck

Next was the ladder truck. One firefighter explained things to us while another rode the truck and worked the controls. We saw the ladder extend all the way to the top of the building – more than four floors up! It looked so high and swayed in the breeze.

Luckily, we were allowed to ride in it too! But just for a moment. We didn’t go all the way up. We would have to wait until we were official firefighters for that.

次ははしご車です。消防士さんの 1 人が説明を、もう 1 人ははしご車に乗って操作をしました。はしごが建物の最上階まで伸びているのが見えました。4 階以上です。とても高く見え、風に揺れていました。

幸運なことに、私たちも乗ることができました。でもほんの一瞬だけです。最上階まで登ることはできませんでした。そのためには、正式な消防士になるまで待たなければなりません。

The Pump Truck

Next was the pump truck! Usually when we think about firetrucks, we think about them spraying water. However, the trucks we had seen so far are used mostly for rescuing people from dangerous situations. The pump truck is filled with water, and ready to douse any fire it comes across.

The firefighters talked to us about emergencies and the job of a firefighter. We got to see the routine of a firefighter quickly getting suited up. We cheered him on. He was dressed in less than a minute!

次はポンプ車です！消防車といえば、水を噴射する車を思い浮かべます。しかし、これまで見てきた車は、主に危険な状況から人を救助するために使われています。ポンプ車には水が満たされており、出くわした火を消す準備ができています。

消防士さんは緊急事態や消防士の仕事について話してくれました。消防士さんが素早く防護服を着る様子を見学しました。彼を応援しました。1分もかからずに服を着てしまいました。

We are thankful

After that, we were able to explore the fire station for a short while. We looked at some other trucks we didn’t see before, like a really big one, and the fan truck that White Owl had seen last year. There were a lot of interesting things to see and think about.

After a while though, it was time to let the firefighters get back to their hard work. We said thank you and goodbye, and went to enjoy our lunch in the park nearby.

We had learned a lot and got some new experiences. We could say we were in an ambulance today! We saw a firefighter’s tools break metal! It was exciting and we were thankful that the firefighters were kind enough to show us around.

Let’s visit again next year!

その後、私たちは消防署を少し探検することができました。これまで見たことのない、とても大きなトラックや、White Owlが昨年見たファントラックなど、他のトラックも見ました。見るべきものや考えるべきことがたくさんありました。

しばらくして、消防士さんがまた一生懸命働く時間になりました。お礼を言って別れを告げ、近くの公園で昼食を楽しみました。

私たちはたくさんのことを学び、新しい経験もしました。今日は救急車に乗っていると言ってもいいくらいです。消防士の道具が金属を壊すのを見ました。とても興奮しましたし、消防士さんが親切に案内してくれたことに感謝しています。

来年もまた訪問させてくださいね。
