5月の「プリ・クラス」では、みんなで五感（視覚、触覚、嗅覚など）を通じて心と体でさまざまな体験を最大限に楽しんできました。いよいよ最終週、締めくくりには6月のTopic「Everything I Love」をにらんで、いろいろな性格、好き嫌い、そして文化にまで話題をひろげて確認していきました。

そして、最後には5感を表現したとても不思議な「Headband」を作成することに。作成からみんなで大盛り上がり、さまざまな表情のHeadbandが完成することができました。

これからも5感を最大限に研ぎ澄まし、みんなで楽しんできましょうね。

Be Aware, and Wear Your Senses!

We had a lot of fun last week learning about our bodies and our 5 senses. There were lots of interesting tests and experiments to do. The best part was that we could all experience them, because all of our bodies can do these things, thankfully!

Everyone is different though, and some may be better than others. As we move into the last week of May, we will consider different personalities, likes and dislikes, and even culture. After all, June is about things that we love.

Everyone may have 5 senses, but everyone loves different things!

先週は、私たちの体と五感について楽しく学びました。たくさんの興味深い実験やテストがありました。なによりも良かったのは、みんなが体験できたことです。ありがたいことに、私たちの体はみんなこれらのことができるのです。

でも、人それぞれ違いますし、得意な人もいれば苦手な人もいるでしょう。5月の最終週に入ると、私たちは様々な性格、好き嫌い、そして文化について考えていきます。何と言っても、6月は「好きなもの」をテーマにする月ですから。

みんな5つの感覚を持っていますが、好きなものは人それぞれです。

5 Senses Headband

To wrap up our lesson on the 5 senses, we did a big interview today to make sure everyone had followed along. One by one, each student was able to answer questions about what senses they could use to interact with random things. Kittens, toys, babies, friends, pieces of pizza, and even harder things, like the wind, or dreams. Everyone was able to pass. Good job!

We also finished up our craft for the topic: our super-fashionable 5 Senses Headband! We had been working on it little by little over the past couple days. We wanted to add an exaggerated body part for each sense: big eyes for sight, big ears for hearing, a tongue for tasting, a nose for smelling, and finally, two big hands-on tops for touch!

It was a fun piece of gear that we could wear like a hat that would show off everything we had learned. And it was super funny, so that was a bonus!

五感についてのレッスンの締めくくりとして、今日はみんながちゃんと理解できたかを確認するために、大きなインタビューを行いました。生徒一人ひとりが、子猫、おもちゃ、赤ちゃん、友達、ピザ、そして風や夢といった少し難しいものまで、身の回りの様々なものとどの感覚を使って触れ合えるかについて質問に答えました。全員合格！ よくできました。

また、このテーマの工作も完成しました。とってもおしゃれな「五感ヘッドバンド」です。ここ数日、少しずつ作ってきました。それぞれの感覚を象徴する体の部位を誇張して表現したかったんです。視覚には大きな目、聴覚には大きな耳、味覚には舌、嗅覚には鼻、そして触覚には大きな両手を描きました。

帽子のように被って、学んだことをみんなに見せびらかせる、楽しいアイテムになりました。しかもとっても面白かったので、それも大きなポイントです。

All the children made each of the pieces on their own, using various methods to fold, cut, trace, or paste. In the end, everyone ended up with unique shapes for their ears, noses, and tongues. Their eyes all showed different expressions. And their hands were traced from their own real hands.

The headbands ended up as a great showing of both how similar and how different we all are.

Remember, our senses are important for everything we do. We can feel the warm sun on our heads when we go to the park, and taste the onions we pull from CHES Garden. Even though we finish the topic, our senses will follow us through the year!

子どもたちはそれぞれ、折り曲げたり、切ったり、なぞったり、貼ったりと、様々な方法でパーツを自作しました。最終的に、耳、鼻、舌は一人ひとり個性的な形になり、目もそれぞれ異なる表情を見せていました。手は、自分の手の形をなぞって作りました。

これらのヘッドバンドは、私たち一人ひとりの共通点と相違点を鮮やかに表現した素晴らしい作品となりました。

私たちの五感は、あらゆる活動において重要な役割を果たしています。公園に行けば頭上に温かい日差しを感じ、CHESガーデンで採れた玉ねぎの味を堪能できます。このテーマ学習が終わっても、五感は一年を通して私たちを支えてくれるでしょう。
